it's not easy to talk about this stuff, even with people you know and trust. it's not easy to write about it either, to find the right words to explain the physical, mental & emotional war zone that is, or has been, your life. i have the utmost respect for those who are able to put themselves out there on these matters. in this day and age, it seems that perhaps mental illness is beginning to get some respected recognition ... but treatment (especially with medications) are perhaps even more stigmatized than ever. Yes, perhaps unnecessary overmedication is a legitimate concern, but that doesn't mean that taking medication may not be the best thing for someone. the issue is finding the right medication, at the right dose, at the right time ... not an easy feat. and this doesn't even begin to cover the fact that tolerances can be developed, circumstances are constantly changing, and side effects can be traumatizing (if not, at the very least, extremely frustrating). one of my good friends, in this blog, is bravely offering all that she has been -- and continues to go -- through. i hope it may reach a few people in need of information, understanding or simply, some commiseration.
